Aspartame Safety Reaffirmed
The Australian Beverages Council, representing 95% of the non-alcoholic beverages industry, has welcomed today’s statement from the European Food Safety Authority confirming that aspartame is safe for the general public.
Aspartame has been approved for use in more than 90 countries worldwide. It is also one of the most thoroughly studied ingredients in the food supply and was tested in more than 200 scientific studies prior to its approval.
“The industry is committed to providing safe products for every lifestyle and occasion and the affirmance of the safety of aspartame will hopefully strengthen consumer confidence. No – and low-kilojoule drinks provide sweetness without the kilojoules and allow consumers to manage what they eat and drink as part of a balanced diet” Mr Parker concluded.
