Australian beverage industry responds to French study on consumption of artificially and sugar sweetened beverages and incident type 2 diabetes
According to the World Diabetes Federation, ultimately the major risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes is lifestyle factors, including obesity and sedentary behaviour, as well as family history, age and ethnicity.
“The authors themselves have acknowledged the limitations of this research.” said the Council’s CEO, Mr Geoff Parker.
“Sweeteners found in beverages, such as aspartame, have been proven safe through a number of studies, including an exhaustive investigation released last month by the European Food Safety Authority which declared aspartame safe.”
“Consuming low and no kj beverages in moderation as part of a balanced diet supported by regular physical activity can help with weight control.” said Mr Parker.
